How do you Charge Your EVs & Types of charging EVs

Now that you have chosen the EV that best fits your needs, how do you charge it up? Well it’s as easy as charging your phone and can be done in the comfort of your home or there are many charging station are available in all over countries.

It’s easy to charge every night they so EV drivers don’t need as much one-time range as a typical gas-engine car driver who may refuel once a week or once a month.

When you charge at home you can always leave with a full battery.

Many EV charging stations are available. there is a good chance you can charge your EV while you are at work, shopping, at the movies, at the mall, at the doctor or dentist, etc so you can probably drive further than you think.

EV’s will also charge themselves whenever you brake or go downhill so sometimes you will have more range available at the bottom of the hill than you did at the top.
There are a couple of different types of charges each with different times it takes to charge your EV, the table below provides more details.

Level 1 – Trickle Charge

  • You can plug your EV into any normal 110v plug just like you do to charge your phone.
  • This will add 8km of range to your EV per hour.
  • The charging cable will come with your EV

Level 2 – Charge @ Home

  • You can purchase a 220v charging station for your home.
  •  A certified electrician will need to install this.
  • These chargers will add 42km of range per hour or typically take 3-4 hours for a full charge.

Level 3 – Public Charging Station

  • There are many charging stations are available in all over countries some are free of cost.
  • These chargers will add 25km+ of range per hour or typically take approx. 4 hours for a full charge.

Level 4- FAST Charge (High Power Stations)

  • Adds 136km of range to your EV in 30min
  • There are some limited FAST charging stations are available in all areas.

Introduction to the Design Process

Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)  Definition of Design - • Engineering design is the process of devising a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.  • It is a decision-making process (often iterative), in which the engineering sciences and mathematics are applied to convert resources optimally to meet a stated objective.  • Among the fundamental elements of the design process are the establishment of objectives and criteria, synthesis, analysis, construction, testing and evaluation.  • Mechanical design means the design of components and systems of a mechanical nature—machines, products, structures, devices and instruments.  • For the most part mechanical design uses mathematics, materials, and the engineering-mechanics sciences.  • Additionally, it uses engineering graphics and the ability to communicate verbally to clearly express your ideas. • Mechanical engineering design includes all mechanical...

Braking system in Electric vehicle (Regenerative braking system)

Moving vehicles have a lot of kinetic energy, and when brakes are applied to slow a vehicle, all of that kinetic energy has to go somewhere. Back in the Neanderthal days of internal combustion engine cars, brakes were solely friction based and converted the kinetic energy of the vehicle into wasted heat in order to decelerate a car. All of that energy was simply lost to the environment. Fortunately, we have evolved as a species and developed a better way. Regenerative braking uses an electric vehicle’s motor as a generator to convert much of the kinetic energy lost when decelerating back into stored energy in the vehicle’s battery. Then, the next time the car accelerates, it uses much of the energy previously stored from regenerative braking instead of tapping in further to its own energy reserves. How well does regenerative braking work? To evaluate regenerative braking, we really need to look at two different parameters,  efficiency  and  effectivenes...

Main use of Ultra Capacitor in EVs

ULTRA-CAPACITOR  Ultra capacitor plays very essential role in the whole system, so that the new technologies have the such abilities to control them. In the ultra capacitor system, the important contents are the DC-DC converter base on the insulated gate bipolar transistor [IGBT], smoothing aluminum inductor Ls, ultra capacitor and battery pack. During acceleration, the capacitor voltage of ultra capacitor permitted to set free from packed rate charge to one-third of its nominal voltage. During deceleration, the energy of capacitor which is released during acceleration period is improved back and charge up the ultra capacitor. Ultra- capacitor is mainly used because it store up 20 times more energy as evaluate to electrolytic capacitor as shown in figure 6. Ultra capacitor also improves the transient performance in EVs, also increase lifespan of batteries. Ultra capacitor provides additional supply to the electric vehicles and also extends the distance.
